Monstera 'Devil Monster'

We always say that a good foundation is half the work done — and this plant is no exception. Start with a chunky, airy aroid mix to keep the roots healthy. A perfect blend includes orchid bark, perlite or pumice, coco coir, and a little compost. A well-draining substrate is essential, as this rare Monstera dislikes compact soil. Or just go with a self-watering planter with our pon and nutrients.

Soil Moisture The Devil Monster prefers its soil slightly on the drier side compared to other Monsteras. Let the top 30–40% of the soil dry out before watering again. Overwatering can easily cause root stress, so always check moisture with your finger first. When the soil feels almost dry but not fully bone-dry, that’s the right time to water.

Light Give this plant bright, indirect light to maintain strong growth and well-defined fenestrations. It tolerates medium light, but expect slower growth and smaller leaves. Avoid harsh, direct sun, as it can scorch the foliage.

Humidity A humidity level of 70–80% will make this plant truly thrive. Higher moisture encourages larger leaves and faster fenestration. A greenhouse cabinet works well.

Potting & Growth The Devil Monster is a natural climber, and supporting it with a moss pole or sturdy stake will significantly enhance its leaf size and shape.

Temperature This plant thrives in warm conditions — ideally 20–30°C. Keep it away from cold drafts and air-conditioning vents, as temperature swings can slow growth.

Water Quality (Pro Tip) Let your watering can sit out overnight before watering. This allows the tap water to stabilise and become gentler on the roots, a small trick that helps sensitive aroids stay healthy long-term.
