This porous material absorbs water, allowing some moisture to evaporate through the sides, which improves soil aeration and reduces the risk of root rot. However, because they absorb water, soil in terracotta dries out more quickly, so plants may need a little extra watering. Always soak a new terracotta pot overnight before repotting to prevent it from drawing too much water from your plants.
