Alocasia Care in Kuwait Climate

Light

Bright indirect light only.

Avoid balcony exposure during summer.

Temperature

18°C – 27°C indoors.

Watering

Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy.

Soil

Chunky tropical mix with bark and perlite.

Alocasia are not beginner plants.

They fail in Kuwait because:

• People overwater

• Soil is too dense

• AC airflow dries leaves

• Roots suffocate

Alocasia Soil Mix (Professional)

  • 35% orchid bark

  • 25% coco chunks

  • 20% perlite

  • 10% pumice

  • 10% worm castings

Roots must breathe.

Alocasia Watering Logic

They prefer:

Moist but oxygenated soil.

Water when:

Top 2–3 cm dry.

Never let them sit in compacted soil.

Dormancy

Alocasia can enter dormancy if:

  • Light drops

  • Roots stressed

  • Temperature fluctuates

If leaves die back:

Check roots.

Do not panic water.

🧪 Root Rot – Real Diagnosis Protocol

Root rot is not “just overwatering.”

It is:

  1. Lack of oxygen in root zone

  2. Anaerobic bacteria growth

  3. Fungal breakdown

How to Confirm Root Rot

Remove plant from pot.

Healthy roots:

Firm, white, slightly earthy smell.

Rotten roots:

Brown/black, mushy, foul smell.

Recovery Protocol

  1. Cut all rotten roots.

  2. Sterilize scissors.

  3. Rinse remaining roots.

  4. Optional: soak in diluted hydrogen peroxide (3% → dilute 1:3 with water).

  5. Repot in dry chunky mix.

  6. Do not water for 3–5 days.

No fertilizer for 3–4 weeks.
